Can Graphologists really detect someone's personality by the dimension, pressure, speed and direction of their script? Can they analyse handwritings in foreign languages or even foreign scripts?
We were pleased to welcome Caroline Murray (Director & Governor of the British Academy of Graphology) to show and reveal the secrets revealed by the handwriting of the famous - from Beckham and Oscar Wilde to Tony Blair and Stalin.

As an extra treat we had a card drop so that three lucky attendees were able to have an on-the-spot handwriting analysis by Caroline.

18 September 2008 - Effectively Branding Your Information Services (kindly sponsored by TFPL)

All libraries and information teams need to ensure their internal clients are aware of the products and services available to them.  Can creating a brand for your services help?  This seminar will feature two case studies highlighting how a commercial bank and professional service firm have significantly increased awareness and usage for their information services by creating and promoting their services within a single brand.

Our two presenters provided insight as to how they created their brands, the techniques they have used to ensure it is effectively communicated to their user community and how they measure the effectiveness and impact of these programs.

Funds was the topic for the SLA Europe event. With speakers from the hedge fund, Polygon Investment Partners and the Private Equity firm, Apax Partners, at
an event sponsored by Incisive Media (the company behind Private Equity
Insight). There was no sign of novices here. Well…apart from the audience, as this was an introduction to the aforementioned finance houses and their inner
workings. By the time the presentation was over it left people intrigued with
the topic and interested in broadening their private and public equity knowledge.

26 February 2008 - Managing Reputational Risk: New tools to monitor your corporate impact and reputation

Social media is creating new challenges for organisations that need to measure the effectiveness of their marketing campaigns, monitor the impact of their brand, and hold on to or create positive reputations.  Keeping up with mainstream media and known issues is no longer enough; executives need to discover emerging opportunities and threats, and have the contextual analysis to enable swift adjustment of their communication strategies.

At our seminar sponsored by Factiva at Dow Jones, our two presenters gave further insight in to this increasingly important area of corporate activity by describing their own products and explaining the business drivers behind their development:

How London companies are contributing to the social and economic regeneration of their local communities

The evening was kindly sponsored by NM Rothschild and the presentations gave an insight into some of the City’s leading companies’ contributions in this area:
• Caroline Pyke, Corporate Social Responsibility Executive, Rothschild
Rothschild’s own community involvement programme
• Katy Miles, Project Manager, East London Business Alliance (ELBA)
The impact that a long term partnership between companies and communities can have
• Sarah Craner, Associate Director of Corporate Responsibility and Community Affairs, UBS
