The SLA Europe IP Award is now in its 14th year. It recognises individuals working in Europe who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in the information profession. Past winners include Marie-Madeleine Salmon, Publicis (France), Steve Borley, Royal Bank of Scotland (UK), Margareta Nelke of Tetra Pak (Sweden) and Will Hann, founder of FreePint (UK).

Janet Hopkins receives the Award for her networking activity in the business information sector in Germany. She has been involved with the “Online Stammtisch”, an informal monthly get-together of information professionals in Frankfurt primarily from banks, financial institutions, consultants and M&A advisors, since its foundation in 1994. Announcing the winner of the Award, SLA Europe President Rachel Kolsky said, “Once again we had a strong contender list. Janet stood out for the number of warm recommendations we received. In addition, we are delighted once again to have a winner from mainland Europe.”

Rachel continued: “Janet Hopkins has been praised by her professional contacts as the ‘glue’ of the networking group, a key to its continued success over the 13 years since its foundation, by ensuring regular networking events, and helping to expand its membership beyond the original native English-speaking founding group. Recently Janet has been instrumental in creating more formal events on topical issues for the group, and in building bridges between the German and English business information world. She organised a training course in Frankfurt by TFPL, having recognised the European need but also the barriers of cost and time of travelling to England.

SLA Europe also recognises the support of Janet’s employer, independent investment banking company Drueker &Co., in hosting events.”

As the SLA Europe IP, Janet Hopkins receives an expenses-paid trip to the SLA Conference, held in Denver, USA, in June 2007, where Clare Hart of Dow Jones will make the formal award. She will also represent SLA Europe in the following months by attending and presenting at key events, including the July SLA Europe Summer Soiree and the December Online Information Conference and Exhibition, both in London, UK.

SLA Europe gratefully acknowledges the generous support of Dow Jones, in concert with its Factiva suite of products, now in the 8th year of sponsorship of the Award.
